What We Believe

God

Unity sees God as Universal Spirit, the loving source of all that is. God is the one and only power in the universe and is, therefore, involved in, and engaged with, every aspect of life and existence. God is divine energy, continually creating, expressing and sustaining all of creation. In God, we live and move and have our being. The wisdom and intelligence of God’s universal mind are unconditionally available to everyone without exception.

Jesus

Our perception of Jesus is an enlightened, divinely guided, master teacher of God’s truth. His way of living and being was designed to awaken people to the divinity of their own spiritual nature. In doing so, he becomes not so much the “exception” to be worshipped but rather the “example” to be followed. His teachings are meant to move people from a state of separation from God into an experience of communion and oneness with God and all life. In Unity, we use the term “Christ” to mean the divine, spiritual “spark” in every person. Jesus is the great example of this Christed essence in a living, breathing expression.

Nature of Humanity

Every person is a creation of God and capable of being a spiritual light in this world. Therefore, at one’s core is a divine nature of goodness that every person is either aware of and attuned to or is unaware and disconnected from. Heightening the degree of our conscious attunement and “at-one-ment” with Universal Spirit is the fundamental purpose of the lives we are each living. As we become increasingly immersed in God consciousness, our lives are enriched and fulfilled at every level.

The Bible

Unity sees the Bible as a collection of writings reflecting the evolution of humanity’s developing consciousness about God, self and life. It is part historical fact and part allegorical story designed to express the truth of how the human mind imagined things could have come into being. Every page invites us to seek the underlying spiritual message and bring it into the present moment employing metaphysical interpretation. The Bible is the story of humankind’s evolutionary journey toward spiritual awakening. Actually the story is not yet complete and did not end with the Book of Revelation.

Prayer & Meditation

Affirmative prayer is the highest form of creative thought. It includes the release of counterproductive, negative thoughts, as well as, the acceptance of positive, creative spiritual truth. Meditation provides an experience of intentional and direct, focused attention upon these universal principles of enlightenment. Engaging life with the regular practice of prayer and meditation, we begin to experience more of “heaven” here and now, and a whole lot less “hell” in our daily life.
